    STRATEGIC HUMAN CAPITAL
Call for Papers: SMS Rome Conference
    Conference dates: September 12 - 15, 2010
    Submission Deadline: February 25, 2010
    See Rome.StrategicManagement.net

The deadline is approaching to submit your proposals for the new Strategic Management Society (SMS) interest group, Strategic Human Capital (SHC), inaugural program in Rome. We welcome research broadly addressing the role of human capital in explaining firm performance. Scholarship that is interdisciplinary and/or considers human capital at multiple levels of analysis is especially welcomed. Some sample key questions include:
    *  What causes firm heterogeneity in valuable human capital?
    *  What mechanisms link human capital to firm outcomes?
    *  How does human capital contribute to competitive advantage?
    *  How do firms manage value appropriation by "stars"?
    *  How do labor markets differ from other strategic factor markets?
    *  How does human capital interact with social or intellectual capital?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the submission process for the SMS conference, we encourage you to visit the submission website (http://rome.strategicmanagement.net/submissions/guidelines.php).  Some important points about submission guidelines are that proposals:
    *  Should not exceed a total of 7 pages – 5 pages for the body which can include charts, graphs, diagrams, etc. and up to 2 pages of references. These may be single spaced. It is a hallmark that SMS presentations are on the cutting edge. Therefore, we invite proposals rather than completed papers.
    *  Must be accompanied by a 125 word abstract for inclusion in the Program.
    *  Only electronic submissions will be accepted.
    *  Maximum of two (2) proposals, either as an author or a co-author.
    *  Must clearly indicate a conference track that best fits for your work (We are Track L).
