The studENT - A Space for PhD Voices

(posted on behalf of @Sergio Rodriguez-Garnica, PhD representative)

Dear PhD colleagues,

This month, I am thrilled to take over the studENT Column, which for the past year was written by Kanan Asif. I want to start by thanking Kanan for his dedication and contributions as PhD Representative in the ENT Division. I am excited to continue creating a space where PhD students can share experiences, challenges, and insights.

My vision for this column is simple: to make it a platform by and for PhD students, where we can discuss the realities of doctoral life, celebrate achievements, and explore questions that matter to our community. From navigating the job market and managing research, teaching responsibilities, and a personal life to reflecting on the bigger picture of entrepreneurship and academia, I hope this column becomes a place where we learn from one another, and feel supported in our journey.

This column is not just about sharing information, it is about creating connections. PhD life can sometimes feel isolating, but together we can build a community where insights, questions, and stories are shared openly. My goal is to amplify your voices, highlight the diversity of experiences across our division, and bring attention to the issues that matter most to emerging scholars in entrepreneurship research.

In this spirit, I am honored to introduce myself as your new PhD Representative for the ENT Division for 2025–26. I am Sergio Rodríguez-Garnica, a final-year PhD Candidate in Management – Entrepreneurship at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain), I completed a PhD visiting period at Copenhagen Business School, and I am currently on the job market. My research explores how institutional and individual factors shape entrepreneurship across the career arc of entrepreneurs, from entry and progression to exit, focusing on hybrid and serial entrepreneurs.

Now, this column is truly for you, the PhD community. I want to hear from you:

What topics or questions would you like me to explore?

What challenges, stories, or ideas would you like to share?

How can we make this community stronger and more supportive for all of us?

Please reach out to me at sergirod@emp.uc3m.es with your suggestions, thoughts, or concerns. I look forward to representing your interests in our studENT Column and the ENT Division Executive Committee. Together, we can make this column, and our division, a space where PhD students feel connected, supported, and inspired to grow as entrepreneurship scholars.
