If you're a current or prospective doctoral student that is motivated to learn more about the academic profession, please check out the call for consortia applicants below. Likewise, if you're a faculty member that knows of any promising students that might be interested, please pass along this note!

    ---

The Annual Doctoral Consortia hosted by the Southern Management Association (SMA) will be held at the Trade Winds Resort in St. Pete Beach, FL on October 25th, 2023 as part of the organization's Annual Meeting (October 25-28).

SMA hosts three doctoral consortia: one for students who have advanced past the comprehensive exam stage (Late stage); one for students in the early stages of their doctoral program (Early stage); and, one for participants that are considering enrolling in a doctoral program (Pre-doctoral). Topics vary, but all consortia are day-long programs designed to provide a better understanding of key factors underlying faculty career success in research, teaching, and service. Moreover, the consortia emphasize opportunities for students to network with peers and field leaders so that they may accelerate their entry into the profession. Each program will feature nationally recognized scholars and provide ample time for questions and discussion.

SMA awards $550 stipends to participants and meeting registration fees are waived. Students must attend the entire program as well as the subsequent SMA business meeting to receive the stipend. Breakfast and lunch the day of the consortia will be provided, courtesy of SMA. Due to the popularity of the consortia, all applications should be submitted by June 15th, 2023.  All applicants must complete and submit the registration form found here:

SMA 2023 Doctoral Consortia Student Application Form*.

*Applicants for the early and late stage consortia should have their Ph.D. coordinator endorse their nomination via the link below. Applications without Ph.D. coordinators' endorsement are not considered so be sure to forward this link to your Ph.D. Program Coordinator.

For the early stage consortium, preference will be given to students in the first or second year of their doctoral programs; for the late stage consortium, preference is given to students who are in their dissertation phase. SMA especially welcomes students who have not previously attended an SMA Doctoral Consortium. Multiple students from one program may be admitted if space is available. To facilitate this process, where there are multiple applicants from a single program, the Ph.D. coordinator must rank order applicants for selection to the consortium. For questions, please email the coordinator for your targeted consortia: Andrew Bennett (Late Stage), Jay O'Toole (Early Stage), and Michael Howe (Pre-Doctoral).

We hope to see you this Fall!
