Do you teach qualitative methods, or are you a qualitative researcher struggling to visualize your data and theory in a parsimonious and compelling way? Are you wrestling with your efforts to visualize time and temporality; complex, multi-level or nested relationships; or iterative, intersecting, and recursive processes? Are you wondering what possible new best practices for visualization are out there? We write to invite you to this year's AOM PDW 2.0 focused on Visualizing Qualitative Data and Theory.
Building on last year's successful inaugural PDW, in the first part of our workshop we will present a newly developed framework that articulates visualizing challenges arising throughout the theory development process and 2) provide best practices and pragmatic solutions drawn from lived experience and the design field. The second part will offer participants the opportunity to present and/or to learn from others' work-in-progress visualizations, feedback, and constructive discussion within a small group format.
All participants are invited to bring their latest version of a work-in-progress visualization/figure to the workshop. (Rough sketches and early drafts are heartily welcomed!) Both paper and digital versions are suitable--the goal is to be able to easily share your visualization with others at a round table.
While not required, we invite participants seeking feedback on their work-in-progress visualizations to "pre-register/apply" for the PDW via this link.
We seek to create a space for discovery, elaboration, and community building around visualization as a core qualitative research practice. We look forward to your joining us!
