Research Atelier: Come with an Idea, Leave with a Paper

    Dear Colleagues,

Did you ever wish you had access to four top notch scholars, and you could run your ideas by them to get feedback before you made significant investment in your research ideas? Do you want to save time and effort, and avoid a highly likely rejection?  Do you want help in crafting a research paper?

We have a great solution for you! Join us in the "Research Atelier: Come with an Idea, Leave with a Paper."

As we all know, having a publication in a top journal is hard, very hard. In about 40 minutes, you will leave the Atelier with a solid plan and a sketch of a great paper. Perhaps more importantly, you will leave with the knowledge that you just saved months and most probably avoided a painful rejection. Of course there are no guarantees, and we are all working to get an R&R.

In the Research Atelier, we match an early career scholar with four excellent research mentors. Four mentors give feedback to early-career scholars about what's interesting, what to do, what not to do, potential sources or parameters for data, methods, variables, hypotheses, takeaway, expectations, theory, phenomena, etc.  The goal is to save time, have the early career colleague see a clear course of action, to execute and improve an idea, and to leave with a solid sketch for a paper.

Here are four examples with research mentors: Asli Arikan, Alvaro Cuervo Cazurrra, Ram Mudambi, and Elizabeth Rose. The four early career colleagues are: Shuo Luna Yang,  Jungyoon Jang, Bei Daisy He, Chai Jia Bryan Hao.

Please send me, Esther Tippmann, or Sumit Kundu and email if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity for the next round of recordings. All you need to submit is a 200-word abstract. Imagine you are writing this abstract to your "idol" in academia. You want to clearly communicate what it is that you will study, why, and how. Obviously, you will want to impress your "idol" so take your time and think. If an idea is clear in your mind, it will be a clear, crisp, brilliant abstract.

We will run the Research Atelier also as the Global Strategy IG workshop at the Strategic Management Society Annual Conference, Istanbul, on Saturday, October 19th, 2024.

For those of you who wish to attend this workshop, please send us an email to sign up. Attendance is free, but we will have limited space. The Global Strategy Journal editors and GSJ editorial board members will serve as faculty mentors.

For more information and to sign up please contact me, Esther or Sumit.
