It features veteran scholars (Peter Ping Li, Mary Teagarden and Roger Chen) and an industry expert (Ker Gibbs, the former President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai), moderated by Liang Wang.     Dr. Peter Ping Li is Li Dak Sum Chair Professor of International Business at the University of Nottingham at Ningbo, China, and also Professor of Chinese Business Studies at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. He used to be Professor of Management at California State University, and also Research Director for the Greater China Region of US-based Center for Creative Leadership (CCL). His primary research focus is on building the geocentric (West-meeting-East) theories from the cultural and historical perspectives, especially applying the Chinese philosophy of wisdom to the development of holistic, dynamic and duality theories. He has been widely recognized as one of the global thought leaders in two fastest emerging research streams: (1) multinational firms from the emerging economies, and (2) indigenous research on the Chinese management.

     

    Dr. Mary B. Teagarden is Deputy Dean of Knowledge Enterprise Faculty and Professor of Global Strategy at Thunderbird School of Global Management. She is thought leader and educator in the areas of global strategic management and strategic human resource management and editor-in-chief of Thunderbird International Business Review. She advises technology-intensive firms throughout the Asia Pacific. Mary serves on the University of San Francisco's Center for Business Studies and Innovation in Asia-Pacific Advisory Board. Dr. Teagarden's research focuses on innovation dynamics, value creation, and talent acquisition and development. She has published more than 140 articles, books, chapters, and case studies in Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review and top academic journals. Mary is sought by media outlets including CNN, CCTV, the Financial Times, and the International Herald Tribune among others who call on her expertise regularly. Mary received her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California.

     

    Dr. Roger (Rongxin) Chen is a professor at the School of Management of the University of San Francisco. He co-founded and served as the founding co-editor-in-Chief at the Journal of Asia Business Studies (JABS). His research focuses on corporate innovation, growth oriented business experimentation, new business development, global strategy and competition with emphasis on China. He was a longtime consulting vice president at Silicon Valley Business Forum(SBF). Currently, he serves as a foreign expert advisor at the post-doctor research group of China Merchant Group. His research has been published in a variety of journals, including Harvard Business Review, Academy of Management Journal, California Management Review (insight), Management International Review, Asia Pacific Journal of Management Studies, Business Horizon, R&D Management, etc. He has received several research awards including "Abramson Award for Outstanding Article" from Business Economics and several faculty research awards from the School of Management at the University of San Francisco.  He got his Ph.D. from University of Texas at Dallas.

     

    Mr.  Ker Gibbs has worked in Asia for more than two decades, most recently as the president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. In the 1990s Mr. Gibbs worked for the Boston Consulting Group in Shanghai. Since then he has split his time between Asia and Silicon Valley, serving in executive positions with Apple, Disney, and high-growth Internet businesses. His career in tech led him to banking, where he became head of technology and media in Greater China for HSBC. Ker Gibbs holds a BA in economics from UCLA and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. He lives in San Francisco and Shanghai.

     

    Dr. Liang Wang is a Professor of strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship in the School of Management and Associate Director of Center for Business Studies and  Innovation in Asia-Pacific (CBSI), University of San Francisco. His research appears in Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, among others. Currently he is co-editing Journal of Business Ethics special issue "Co-evolution of strategy, innovation and ethics: The China story and beyond".
