    Dear Entrepreneurship Community,

I am pleased to announce that a new conference dedicated to scholarly work on topics related to health and entrepreneurship will launch this October (7th and 8th) in Chicago, IL. The conference is purposely designed to be a small forum (capped at 50 people) where researchers can share their work in more detail with like-minded scholars and to foster collaborations for disseminating high quality research related to health in the process of new venture creation. We will also have two panels consisting of entrepreneurs, investors, insurance payers and providers, university program managers, and accelerators to discuss how we can advance work related to health in entrepreneurship.

We have a fantastic group of scholars to kick off this conference and share their work:

    Ute Stephan, King’s College London

Marcus Wolfe, University of North Texas

Chuck Murnieks, University of Missouri-Kansas City

    Jintong Tang, St. Louis University

    Mike Lerman, Iowa State University

Jeff Gish, University of Central Florida

Oana Branzei, University of Western Ontario

    Gloria Morris, Entrepreneur

April Spivack, Hanken School of Economics

    Stephen Zhang, University of Adelaide

    Tim Michaelis, Northern Illinois University

    Maija Renjo, DePaul University

Jon Carr, North Carolina State University

The conference will be hosted in downtown Chicago, IL, at MATTER (https://matter.health/), a healthcare accelerator and incubator and at DePaul’s Coleman Center for Entrepreneurship (https://business.depaul.edu/about/centers-institutes/coleman-entrepreneurship-center/).

For complete details, please see the following website and agenda: https://www.cob.niu.edu/academics/management/health-entrepreneurship/index.shtml

Doctoral Students. We are also very excited that through a generous gift we can provide honorariums for 6 doctoral students ($400.00) who wish to attend this conference. The goal of this event is to connect you with senior researchers in the field, to provide you with advice on your research (methodological and theoretical), and to connect you with like-minded scholars who are interested in health-related research in entrepreneurship. For doctoral students interested in attending the conference, please send Tim Michaelis (tmichaelis@niu.edu) (1) a copy of your updated CV, (2) a 1 page description regarding your research interests related to health and entrepreneurship topics, and (3) optional – a writing sample or draft of a research paper you are working on. We have 2 spots left for doctoral students interested in attending.

For Faculty and Practitioners interested in attending this conference, please contact Tim Michaelis (tmichaelis@niu.edu). Space is limited (50 people), so please reach out soon! In your email, please let me know if you have research in progress related to health in entrepreneurship. We currently have only 10-15 spots remaining.

October is an amazing month to visit Chicago. We have great food planned for the event, a social event, and plenty of recommendations to enjoy the city once the conference ends on Saturday afternoon. We (Jon, Maija, and I) are looking forward to spending time with everyone in the Windy City!

    All the best,

    Tim

Note. This event is planned to be in person, but we are also planning to record all sessions for those who are not able to attend.

Note. Vaccinations for COVID-19 are required for this event and you will have to show proof of vaccination (register through their website) to enter the MATTER event space.
