    Term Faculty Position In Entrepreneurship

    Department of Management, Kogod School of Business

    American University, Washington DC

     

    The term faculty appointment in entrepreneurship will be expected to teach a range of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels that can include topics such as design thinking, introduction to entrepreneurship, innovation & entrepreneurial mindset, customer discovery & validation, business planning, entrepreneurial finance, venture capital, social impact and global entrepreneurship They may also be called on to teach other courses in general management as directed.  This position carries a service component, titled as Assistant Director, AU Center for Innovation (AUCI), through which it provides direct support and leadership for various programming events and coaching/mentoring activities to 20 – 25 student startup ventures in the AUCI Incubator Program. AUCI brings together prospective student entrepreneurs, educators, and experienced entrepreneurs to develop entrepreneurial mindsets, identify opportunities, refine business models, and launch new ventures. Over 120 student ventures have been launched since AUCIs founding impacting over 500 students, and generating over $9.0 million in venture revenue and $3.6 million in investments.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • MBA or MA in relevant business disciplines or other relevant terminal degrees
    • Founder or co-founder startup experience, including launching and growing a business to sustainable revenues and profitability. Successful exit of a business a plus.
    • Multi-disciplinary business experience through leadership roles
    • Active leadership and participation in the applicant's local startup ecosystem.
    • Presentations and/or teaching at the higher education or corporate training (workshop) level in general business and/or entrepreneurship related topics.
    • Demonstrated collegiality, good citizenship, and professional background

     

    Responsibilities include:

    • Providing high quality undergraduate and graduate teaching in the identified topics
    • Serving as the Assistant Director in the AU Center for Innovation with requisite programming activities & coaching
    • Participation in department, school, university, and professional activities
