Call for papers / proposals: “A Process Perspective in Entrepreneurship Research”

This 3rd edition of the Paper Development Seminar (3PDS) aims at helping the participants to develop their research results into manuscripts that may be published in top-level academic journals. To achieve this objective, the seminar will include the participation of renowned scholars specialized in entrepreneurship, who will present some of their most recent research on the analysis of the entrepreneurial process, as well as reviewing and commenting on the papers/proposals sent by the participants.
Papers / proposals applying a process perspective to entrepreneurship are welcome. The term “entrepreneurial process” describes a variety of stages ranging from the consideration of a possible start-up to the consolidation of the firm. Several models have identified a series of phases that end up with the creation/growth of a new venture (DeTienne, 2010). Reynolds and White (1997) consider the entrepreneurial process as consisting of four distinct phases — conception (potential entrepreneurs), gestation (nascent entrepreneurs), infancy (fledging new firms), and adolescence (established new firms). Korunka et al. (2003), in turn, refer to the entrepreneurial process as one that begins with the nascent entrepreneur and ends with the creation of the new venture. Entrepreneurship is as very complex process (Gartner et al., 2004). Taking the process view, entrepreneurship presents dynamic behaviours experimented under certain environmental conditions where opportunities and business ideas come from (Jack and Anderson, 2002). We are open to any contributions to analysing the entrepreneurial process, may they be conceptual or empirical and, in this latter case, using quantitative (ideally longitudinal but also cross-sectional) and/or qualitative methods.
Submissions will go through peer review and those deemed to have the highest potential (on the opinion of the organizing committee) will be invited to participate. Selected participants will be offered the opportunity to submit a full paper (if they did not do so initially). Nevertheless, extended abstracts may also be presented at the seminar. The objective is to develop a productive and intimate work environment. For this reason, we will limit the number of proposals/papers to be presented, to a maximum of 20.

Submission instructions

The deadline for the submission of papers / proposals is November 30th, 2019. There is no specific format or template to follow. However, in the case of proposals, a minimum of 1500 words is required, including aims, theoretical framework, methodology and findings (if applicable), implications and contribution. Submissions will be made by email to entrepreneurs@us.es

The proposals will be evaluated by the organizing committee with the help of external reviewers, if needed. On December 31st, 2019, decision letters will be sent to submitting authors. Authors of accepted papers attending the seminar will have to register by January 31st, 2020. More information on the registration process will be available later this year. The registration fee will be kept as low as possible.

Authors of the accepted papers / proposals are encouraged to submit a more developed version by March 15th, 2020, although this is not required. The specific form of presentation in the seminar will depend on the paper format. Full papers will be presented orally by the authors in the allocated time, followed by some time for Q&A. Extended abstracts will be presented in an interactive poster session where the authors will discuss their research with interested participants.

All submissions will be presented to the audience and the invited speakers. The authors will receive general comments, specific clarifications and suggestions from the academics that make up the panel of experts in entrepreneurship. Based on this highly qualified feedback, the authors will be able to improve their manuscripts and thus increase their chances of getting published in top academic journals in the field of entrepreneurship.
