Symposium on Entrepreneurship Education in Africa: From Theory to Practice

 Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to the Symposium on Entrepreneurship Education in Africa: From Theory to Practice to be held virtually on September 17 and September 18, 2021.

Although many universities in the developed world are embracing entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education, African universities have not fully integrated this discipline as a significant part of their curriculum. Additionally, those that have incorporated entrepreneurship in their curricula continue to employ pedagogies that are of a traditional and theoretical orientation. According to Kabongo and Okpara (2010), entrepreneurship education in Africa is still focused on lecturing. Hence, the purpose of this symposium is to engage in a fulsome dialogue to enhance entrepreneurship education in Africa and to make it more practical and relevant. The symposium explores pedagogies in entrepreneurship education that could enhance student engagement and overall effectiveness in the classroom. It also explores the role of technologies and blended entrepreneurship education including virtual formats and the use of MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses).

The symposium includes a keynote panel, Entrepreneurship Education in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities, and five discussion panels:

1) Entrepreneurship Pedagogies I: Active Learning Pedagogies,

2) Entrepreneurship Pedagogies II: Storytelling,

3) Teaching Youth & Women Entrepreneurship,

4) Teaching Community, Cultural, & Social Entrepreneurship, and

5) Teaching Entrepreneurship from Students’ Perspective.

The Symposium is sponsored by RnD Associates and the Colleges of Business at Delaware State University, Morgan State University, North Carolina Central University and Seeka University, a start-up university devoted to teaching entrepreneurship, engineering and technology in Ivory Coast. Registration and participation in the Symposium are free of charge. We encourage you to join us in exploring how to make entrepreneurship education in Africa a catalyst for economic growth on the continent.

We look forward to seeing you for an engaging two-day symposium September 17 and 18, 2021
