  • 1.  Discussion group membership for regional Academy members

I was presenting to a group of entrepreneurship faculty at the Midwest AOM meeting yesterday and the question came up where to go for resources. I mentioned our discussion list as one resource. When I got home I checked it out, and while it seems anyone can read the list from our home page on the AOM.org site, there isn't a way for them to subscribe. I recall we were discussing with the change over to the new discussion list system whether nonmembers would be able to subscribe. Can someone remind me what the outcome of that discussion was? Thanks in advance. Jerry

    Hi Jerry,

Great question.  Based on feedback from our division, Academy did decide to allow non AOM members to join the communities.  As of now, people who are not members of AOM who wish to join a community need to request access to the community through AOM.  Those who wish to join can make this request when they initially establish their account.  When they do this it would also help if they emailed either me at lmarino@cba.ua.edu or Jeff Pollack at jmpolla3@ncsu.edu so we can make sure the request moves through the process in a timely manner.  We have been trying to get the approval process changed but it is slow going despite the fact that we have AOM's support.  Jeff has ben a very strong advocate for a process that allows a division representative to approve outside members rather than one of Kerry's team members at Academy.  They are working with us to make this change happen, but it appears to be a software issue that has to be adjusted so it may take some time to get it corrected. In the meantime, please encourage everyone interested, regardless of Academey affiliation,  to join the community.

      Thanks!

    Lou
