    Posted 06-14-2018 07:53

DISCOtech! Despite lacking any rotating chrome mirror ball we had over 30 attendees show up in 2017 and talk about possible projects where we could collaborate across schools, continents and even had evil qualitative scholars huddling with eviler quants! Will you join us? And bring your idea?

Much as Studio 54 was the catalyst for a new era in the New York City scene, our DISCOtech is the catalyst for the Development of International Scholarship Collaboration Opportunities and the techniques needed to support global research collaborations. It empowers scholars to connect with individuals who live, work and/or conduct research in countries of interest to a scholar, and to discuss strategies for developing broad collaborations that cross national, cultural and methodological in research and beyond. If you want great opportunities to connect in an informal setting that provides opportunities for individuals like you to meet others to conspire on research collaborations, DISCOtech will be the place. In 2017, we had over 30 attendees from 6 continents, quantitative and qualitative, and ranging from leading scholars to doctoral students. Imagine what 2018 will bring!

What do YOU want to research in productive collaborations? And how can WE help you? If you have an interest, please contact DISCOtech chair Marjan Gorgievski-Duijvesteijn <gorgievski@essb.eur.nl> or David Urbano or Norris Krueger. If you do, we will be circulating the submitted ideas so we can get a head start. Afterward, we will be following up. We can't promise a spinning chrome disco ball*, but we CAN promise great conversation and even greater people!

p.s. David U is awesome, Marjan is awesome-er!

    * we would need extra insurance... yikes! (and LOL)

Thank you Norris, for sending around the first announcement for the DISCOTech event 2018.

Picking up the helping role as the chairperson right away, I hereby like to give the ENT Division members an idea of what we are looking for at this point. Similar to last year, we will be organising thematic round table discussions THAT ANYONE CAN JOIN.

In addition, we want to give a restricted number of scholars the floor to tell others about their own projects. These presentations can, for example,  be about your plans for a cross-national research project you seek partners for, an idea to publish together, or a fuck-up experience you really feel needs to be shared. The presentations should evoke discussions and elevate the participants' spirits. (Hence, we personally favour the fuck-up experiences). This is a new element in our DISCOTech program and we are in the planning stage, so fresh ideas for this are very welcome.
