The Family Business: An Organizational Model in a Context of Crises and Transitions?

    Dear ENT Members,

I'm pleased to share that we are organizing the first family business conference in La Martinique (French West Indies). We hope to encourage family business research in the Caribbean area by providing an opportunity to receive feedback from journal editors on extended abstracts and full papers.

This conference invites theoretical, conceptual, and empirical contributions to examine if and how the family business model can address financial (over-indebtedness, insolvency, etc.), relational (internal conflicts, weak cohesion, etc.), human (disengagement, turnover, employee well-being, etc.), or strategic (growth, innovation, etc.) challenges faced by organizations during crises and transitions. Among other topics, contributions may address the following questions:

    • What are the advantages and limitations of the hybrid logic adopted by family businesses? How might this logic serve as a model for other organizations?
    • How can emotional ties strengthen organizational cohesion during crises and transitions? Are these ties always beneficial in an organizational context? How can they be cultivated to yield "benefits"?
    • When and how can the solutions recommended for addressing the main weaknesses of family businesses (conflict management, succession planning, internal communication, professionalism, good governance, etc.) be adopted by other organizations?
    • Can the "managing like a good family head" approach serve as a model for non-family businesses to ensure sustainability? What are this model's limitations in financial management?
    • What are the advantages of the tradition-based innovation paradigm upheld by family businesses? Is it replicable, and what are its limits?
    • Is the value-based management model (human, social, societal) promoted by most family businesses relevant for other types of organizations? How can its authenticity and beneficial effects be guaranteed? How can these values be cultivated in an organizational context?

Special attention will be given to contributions focusing on the context of entrepreneurship and family businesses in the Caribbean regions

    • Long format: Maximum of 20 pages, Times New Roman 12, single-spaced, with 2.5 cm margins (excluding the title page, references, and appendices).
