CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
From Symbols to Rules: New Perspectives on Language and Communication in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research
PDW
2023 Academy of Management Annual Meeting
4-8 August 2023 in Boston, MA, USA
Dear colleagues,
If you are interested in the transformative potential of language and want to interact with an international community of researchers studying the role of language and communication in entrepreneurship and innovation from a computational perspective, consider joining us in Boston!
This PDW aims to shift the focus from language's symbolic nature to its structural properties, drawing more heavily (and rigorously) on linguistics to advance our understanding of how language can help entrepreneurs and innovators rally key audiences' support around their novel ideas, products, or project. We will also discuss the challenges and opportunities of the increasing availability of text data and advances in computational methods to study the linguistic rules and properties that entrepreneurs and innovators follow (or break) and how this affects their endeavors to marshal resources and win audience favor.
The PDW is structured in two parts.
Part -1: Panel Discussion and Q&A - All are welcome for this session without registration!
The first part will be open to all participants interested in hearing our distinguished panelists presenting their recent work. These experts boast a range of conceptual and empirical expertise that will provide attendees with a well-rounded series of presentations to frame subsequent discussions around the following topics:
1) Reflect on critical issues and opportunities associated with a linguistic perspective and derive both theory-based and practice-based research trajectories
2) Discuss how multi-disciplinary perspectives can enrich these trajectories
3) Discuss innovative approaches and methodologies that could be used to pursue these trajectories.
Part -2: Roundtable Discussion – Participation is limited.
The second half of the PDW will be reserved for those participants who have pre-registered and submitted a short executive summary of a paper they are working on. Current Ph.D. students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty members are strongly encouraged to apply. Each mentor will be assigned a few papers, providing participants with the opportunity to benefit from high-quality, tailored feedback from top researchers in this área.
