Scholars with an interest in (studying) digital platforms are invited to check out Platform Papers.
Platform Papers takes stock and organizes the academic research on platforms across the fields of management, information systems, marketing and economics. At its heart is a Reference Dashboard with over 700 (clickable) academic references. These references can be filtered by year, journal, field of publication, method, and four conceptual themes as set out by Rietveld and Schilling (2021, JoM). Platform Papers further offers a number of data visualizations that summarize the body of academic research on platforms. The database is updated on a monthly basis, adding new articles as they appear on journals' websites.
There is also a Platform Papers blog (hosted on Substack) where prominent academics translate their research into digestible blogposts for a broad audience of individuals interested in platforms and Big Tech. Authors whose work is included in the aforementioned References Dashboard are eligible to be invited to contribute a blogpost. Several leading platform scholars have recently contributed blogs, including Carmelo Cennamo and Juan Santalo, Abhishek Nagaraj and Henning Piezunka, Sruthi Thatchenkery and Riitta Katila, Kevin Boudreau, and many others! The blog just published a 2024 Year in Review post outlining the past year in platforms research. Join a growing community of more than 1,300 individuals by subscribing to the blog (for free)!
Please feel free to share these resources with any colleagues or students with an interest in platforms.
