    The Pamplin College of Business at the Virginia Tech is seeking outstanding candidates for the Executive Director position at the Apex Center for Entrepreneurship.

    The Apex Center for Entrepreneurs is a core member and key entity of Virginia Tech's entrepreneurial ecosystem, providing a comprehensive program in entrepreneurial venture development. The Center serves as an interdisciplinary resource to support students, faculty, and VT alumni in contributing to the University's tripartite mission of research, teaching, and service. In 2018, the Apex Center was named one of the best emerging entrepreneurship centers globally by GCEC (the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers) and in 2020 the Center won GCEC's top award for exceptional contributions in entrepreneurship research.

    Job Description

    The Apex Center Executive Director reports directly to the Associate Dean for Centers at the Pamplin College of Business. Key responsibilities for the ED role include: 

    • Leading the Center as it enters a new phase of growth and expansion, contributing more broadly and boldly to this critical Pamplin and university initiative. 
    • Engaging internal and external stakeholders to help build Center capability and support ongoing programming growth and value creation, with a particular focus on undergraduate co-curricular programming that fosters and accentuates engagement with innovation and business venturing. 
    • Developing both intermediate and long-term strategic plans consistent with the vision of the Center and will also be responsible for implementing this plan. 
    • Managing the daily operations of the Center, including program management, staffing, and fund raising. 
    • Interfacing with numerous, diverse, internal and external stakeholders across VT's vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, consistent with bridge-building activities that characterize higher education: students and student groups, faculty, staff, departments, colleges, centers, alumni, government entities, peer institutions, and the business community.
    • Working with Pamplin College of Business and other VT faculty to support complementary efforts in entrepreneurship instruction, research, and co-curricular programming.
    • Collaborating with Apex Board members to enrich Center programming through active engagement with alumni and members of the broader community.

    Required Qualifications

    A Master's degree or terminal degree in business, entrepreneurship, or a related area.

    Excellent networking, interpersonal, and communication skills.

    Ability to work with diverse groups.

    Ability to teach and mentor undergraduate students on topics related to entrepreneurship.

    Demonstrated evidence of leadership ability.

    Experience working for or with startup firms.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Prior experience with technology-oriented business, particularly startup or early growth stage businesses.

    Prior experience with seeking and managing industry startup fundraising and/or sponsored research funding.

     Prior experience in academic business program or center management.
