Abstract: How does entrepreneurial culture survive destabilizing historical events? This study introduces a novel framework that integrates disruptive contexts into the cultural transmission theory to explain how families preserve entrepreneurial values under adverse socio-political conditions. The framework posits that disruptive contexts amplify disparities between family and societal cultures, intensifying parental efforts to instill unique values. Family-level mechanisms, such as socialization intensity and parental value congruence, facilitate this vertical transmission process. Using longitudinal data from the China Family Panel Studies (2010–2020), I test the framework in the context of the Mao Zedong-era, a period characterized by systemic efforts to dismantle entrepreneurship. I show that offspring of entrepreneurial families are more likely to be entrepreneurs today, with entrepreneurial values-work ethic, risk tolerance, and learning attitudes-being transmitted across generations despite systemic disruptions. By focusing on family-level dynamics, this research advances the literature on entrepreneurial persistence and cultural resilience amid shocks..
