Call for Papers: Global Sport Business Journal (Volume 10, 2025 Edition)

The Global Sport Business Journal (GSBJ), the official publication of the Global Sport Business Association (GSBA), is relaunching this year and invites submissions for its 2025 edition (Volume 10). As a peer-reviewed academic journal, GSBJ is dedicated to advancing scholarship in the business of sport and innovation through interdisciplinary research that bridges theoretical development and practical application. The journal is now indexed through the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and Google Scholar.

Information about the relaunched GSBJ along with past editions of the journal can be found here: https://scholarworks.sfasu.edu/gsbj/. If you are a past author, please link your articles to your Google Scholar account for better reach.

    Aims and Scope:

GSBJ provides a platform for scholars, industry professionals, and policymakers to explore critical issues shaping the business of sport, with an emphasis on global perspectives and leadership in sport management. The journal welcomes quantitative and qualitative research from various business disciplines, including sport entrepreneurship, innovation, marketing, finance, economics, analytics, management, law, and governance.

We invite submissions in the following areas:

    Additional Submission Categories:

GSBJ also invites case studies and book reviews that provide real-world insights into business practices, strategic decision-making, organizational challenges, and contemporary trends in sports business and management.

    • Case Studies: Practical examinations of sports organizations, teams, events, or business models, offering valuable lessons for academia and industry. Case studies should include teaching notes and supplemental materials wherever possible.
    • Book Reviews: Critical assessments of recent publications contributing to the understanding of sports business, marketing, governance, and technology. (Please see additional email for information about books being considered for this volume of the journal)
    • GSBA Conference Abstracts: Conference abstracts from the 2025 Global Sport Business Association conference will be published in late March 2025.

    Submission Guidelines:

When preparing manuscripts for publication in the Global Sport Business Journal (GSBJ), authors should follow the guidelines set forth in the latest edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). Manuscripts that do not adhere to APA formatting guidelines will not be reviewed.

The GSBJ seeks to balance rigorous academic research with accessibility for practitioners and industry professionals who may be less familiar with advanced theoretical and research intricacies. Where appropriate, authors are encouraged to present findings in clear, reader-friendly language to facilitate broader engagement with the content.

Additionally, when discussing statistical tests used in research, authors should explain the rationale for selecting the test and clarify what the test measures. Providing this context will enhance readability for those without a strong statistical background. Finally, all papers should conclude with a practical discussion on the implications of the research for sport business professionals, addressing how the findings may impact industry practices, policies, or decision-making.

    • Manuscripts should not be under review for publication elsewhere while being considered by GSBJ.
    • Authors are responsible for ensuring accuracy in references, proofreading all content, and properly formatting tables and figures on separate pages, with clear indications of their placement within the text.
    • Submissions should be 30 pages or fewer, including references, and must be preceded by a 150-word abstract.
    • Book reviews should not exceed 3 pages, including references.
    • Manuscripts must be double-spaced, including abstracts and references.
    • Photos or graphics should be submitted in JPG format. Tables, charts, images, or other graphics should include notes of approximate placement within the document.
    • All manuscripts must be submitted online in Microsoft Word (.docx) format. The submission system will automatically anonymize files to ensure a blind peer-review process. If submitting a Word .doc file, authors must manually remove identifying metadata before submission.
    • A current email address must be provided to ensure prompt communication if any issues arise.

You may submit your paper here: https://scholarworks.sfasu.edu/cgi/submit.cgi?context=gsbj

    Review Process:

    • Manuscripts are evaluated through a double-blind peer review conducted by members of the GSBJ editorial board. Papers will be assessed based on topical relevance, scholarly rigor, and clarity of presentation.
    • Articles will have a 30- to 60-day turnaround time for initial review.
    • Detailed submission guidelines and the online submission portal are available through the Submit Article link in the journal's navigation pane.

We encourage scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to contribute to Volume 10 of GSBJ, fostering an informed and impactful discourse on the evolving global sports industry.

    Submission Deadline:

GSBJ publishes peer-reviewed research, case studies, and book reviews on an ongoing basis. Articles will be published as they are reviewed and accepted.  The 2025 edition will close in December.
