    December 17-19, 2018

"From Start-up to Scale-up: Coping with Organizational Challenges in a Volatile Business Environment"

    Doctoral Consortium

    Monday December 17th 2018

    Application deadline: July 1st 2018

We are pleased to announce the Doctoral Consortium that will be held as part of the AOM Tel Aviv 2018 conference, on Monday, December 17th 2018. The goal of the Doctoral Consortium is to help doctoral students advance their research and plan their future careers.

The world of research is all about communicating with a community of scholars with overlapping interests. Doctoral consortia are most valuable in providing an intimate setting for a cohort of doctoral students to get to know each other and meet senior scholars in their fields. The Doctoral Consortium aims to offer such a setting for Ph.D. students interested in conducting cutting-edge research in Organizational Behavior and Strategy.

The consortium is organized by Niron Hashai (The Interdisciplinary Center, Herzliya), Ronit Kark (Bar Ilan University) and Hila Lifshitz-Assaf (New York University) and features an international panel of senior faculty members.

Confirmed Panelists: Dovev Lavie, Zur Shapira, Brian Silverman, Ithai Stern, Chris Tucci, Batia Wiesenfeld.

The Consortium is comprised of three components:

    1.     Thesis Development workshopa select group of doctoral students will have an opportunity to present their research and receive guidance and commentary from senior faculty. The workshop will be conducted in two parallel tracks: a Micro track and a Macro track. Please note that preference will be given to applications that fit the conference theme, but we encourage other submissions as well.

Selection for this workshop is highly competitive.  Admission preference will be given to students whose research is at the dissertation proposal stage. The dissertation should be sufficiently developed to allow for a clear presentation of the theory and research design, but leave significant room for revision based on comments received at the consortium.

    2.     Getting published in top journalsa panel discussions aimed at conveying to students some proven techniques of (1) framing research questions, (2) research design, (3) packaging, (4) dealing with editors and reviewers.

    3.     Learning from career narratives/stories of leading academicsa panel of leading international scholars that will share their career stories. The panelists will describe their career development route, the career choices they made, complex decisions they had to make along the way, dilemmas and turning points. Through these career life stories PhD students and junior scholars will be able to gain insights into the life course of academics and into dilemmas and decisions that have to be made along the route.
