Postdoc position: Entrepreneurial ecosystems, business models and finance for sustainable historic urban areas

Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) offers a position which is part of the EU Horizon 2020 project 'HUB-IN'. This research project takes an internationally comparative approach. The entrepreneurial ecosystem framework will be applied to improve insight into the (productive) interaction between entrepreneurship and historic urban areas, in order to stimulate their regeneration. It will also focus on finding business and financing models that support sustainable entrepreneurship development in historic urban areas.

Research methods include systematic literature review of the relevant knowledge base, qualitative research methods such as case studies, semi-structured interviews and archival document analysis. This is a multidisciplinary research project, including economics, finance, innovation studies, business administration and economic geography. The research is positioned within Utrecht University's Strategic Research Theme Institutions for Open Societies, but also has clear connections with the theme Sustainability. The successful candidate will also assist in education related to the research topic (e.g. Sustainable Entrepreneurship, thesis supervision) offered in the U.S.E education program during the course of the appointment. The successful candidate will be part of the section Entrepreneurship at U.S.E.

    ·       We are looking for an excellent and enthusiastic researcher who is able to combine academic and broader societal perspectives. The candidate is well connected to relevant academic partners as well as to stakeholders in society and urban areas specifically. Candidates should have a (almost completed) PhD in entrepreneurial finance, economics, innovation studies, management or a related discipline and ideally have published in international scientific journals.

    ·       Familiarity with qualitative research methods in the social sciences is desirable. Candidates should be able and interested to (co-)operate in a multidisciplinary research group with societal stakeholders and knowledge institutes is an important selection criteria. Experience in acquiring and carrying out externally funded projects is an additional asset. Good communication and coordination skills and excellent command of spoken and written English are required.
