Nord University Business School, Bodø, Norway, invites applications from outstanding candidates for a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship in entrepreneurship and gender.

The post doc will work within the division of innovation and entrepreneurship. This is one of four divisions at the Business School and employs more than 40 people, from PhD students to professors, and is recognized internationally as the leading entrepreneurship group in Norway.
The research group has a strong research profile within entrepreneurship and innovation with a focus on new business formation, innovation in existing businesses as well as public policies for innovation and entrepreneurship.

The position is part of the EU-funded project Overcoming the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Gender Divide: A Cross-Cultural Perspective (GENRE). The project takes as a starting point the fact that women are underrepresented in successful entrepreneurial ecosystems and a persistent gender bias continues to exist in entrepreneurship discourse and practice. GENRE aims to address this, by providing a nuanced understanding of how gender is a decisive factor, i.e. how women and men are influenced by and, in turn, influence entrepreneurial ecosystems differently. In order to achieve this, we will focus on a specific facet of gender in entrepreneurship: namely women's technology entrepreneurship and how this relates to accepted femininity and masculinity norms in different contexts. The project will focus on the cultural embeddedness and interactions of gender, technology, entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems. Comparison between Ireland, Sweden, Norway, and Israel will help to explain variations and similarities with regard to gender in technology entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem frameworks.

The postdoctoral research fellow will mainly work within Work Package 3 focusing on a cross-cultural examination of investor behaviour. The aim here is to investigate the extent to which gendered understandings of (technology) entrepreneurship influences investor behaviour, and the perceived legitimacy of male and female technology entrepreneurs seeking investor funding. The post doctor will be part of a team that will collect and analyse interview data (entrepreneur and investors) and document data related to investor behaviour from four countries. Some work related to other work packages may also apply. The project offers the post doctor the opportunity to work with an international well-renowned international research group, including other post doctors.

The full project description is available upon request. Please send an email to gry.a.alsos@nord.no

The contract will be for a 3-year period with a 25 % teaching load, and the work is to be carried out on location in Bodø, Norway, a growing university town in an area of great natural beauty (visitbodo.wips.no/en).

    Qualification requirements:

    • PhD in Business, Management, Entrepreneurship, Gender studies or equivalent within the last 5 years. Applicants who will complete their PhD first half of 2019 may also apply. In such cases, the application should contain a detailed letter explaining the current status of the candidate's PhD project
    • Experience in research within entrepreneurship, innovation or related areas and/or within gender studies, and research interests which matches the GENRE project
    • Excellent written and oral English language skills

    Advantageous, but not strict requirements:

    • Documented pedagogical qualifications and experience from teaching and supervision. This because although the primary duties of the position are within research, but the candidate is expected and encouraged to be an active member of the Business School's faculty and take part in teaching, supervision, outreach and administrative responsibilities
    • Good understanding of a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish or Danish) since parts of the data in the project will be in Norwegian
    • Experience from acquisition of externally funded research projects (e.g. from the EU framework programmes or national research councils)
