As global economic competition becomes increasingly innovation-driven, policymakers in both government and business are actively searching for ways to increase innovation at all levels of society including individual, firm, industry, nation, and region. Past research on innovation policy tended to take a piece-meal investigative approach with focus on a single or narrow-set of explanatory variables, resulting in limiting or ineffective policy recommendations. This PDW seeks to develop a programmatic, cross-national research agenda to investigate the respective roles of a nation's institutions, infrastructures, and firms in affecting innovative performance at multiple levels of analysis and examine policy implications for businesses, entrepreneurs, governments, and other stakeholder groups. The PDW, consisting of two consecutive 45-minute roundtable sessions, will be highly interactive with participants engaging in small groups to develop a preliminary research agenda that combines individual members' research interests with the aim of forming a global research network for follow up collaboration.
