Tenure Track Professor in Strategic Management of Technology and Innovation
The vacancy at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management is open to outstanding individuals with strong research and teaching interest. However, exceptional candidates at other levels will also be considered.
Your role and goals
The tenure track position in Strategic Management of Technology and Innovation covers research areas in the intersections of technology strategy, innovation management, and technology entrepreneurship, contributing to our department-wide focus on the creation and transformation of technology-based business. To complement the existing strengths in the department's key areas, we particularly welcome candidates with research interest and expertise in technology strategy, management of innovation, and technology entrepreneurship.
The professorship advances the research and education related to science-based innovations in the early stages of nascent enterprises as well as in established technology-based businesses. The new professor is to address relevant problems associated with the strategic management of technology and innovation for the creation and transformation of technology-based business. Goals for the research and education offered by the professorship include advancing the distinct profile of Aalto University as an entrepreneurial university that fosters the theory development of technology and innovation management and fortifying the impact of technological development on business and society.

The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management conducts world-class research and provides impactful education on creating and transforming technology-based business. We are one of Europe's leading university departments in technology entrepreneurship, focusing especially on strategic management and venturing, operations and service management, and entrepreneurial leadership. In total, we are more than 120 persons working in the department, including 20 professors, over 30 senior and postdoc researchers, and a large number of doctoral students.
The faculty at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management is well known for its publications in leading management journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, as well as the leading journals in the core research areas of the department such as Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Research Policy, and Journal of Operations Management in entrepreneurship, innovation, and operations and service management. The department conducts empirical research in close collaboration with the leading technology firms in Finland and Europe. Your experience and ambitions
Throughout their careers, those in the academic tenure track system are expected to carry out and supervise scholarly research, to follow the advances of their field, to provide high-quality academic education, and to participate in service to the Aalto University community and to contribute to broader societal discussions in their field.
The applicants should hold a doctorate in a discipline relevant for this position or receive the degree before the beginning of the contract. The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research, teaching, and activity in the scientific community.
