AOM Live Showcase Symposium: The Art of Storytelling in Academic Writing

    Session 388 – Saturday, July 31 3:30-5:00 ET

Storytelling is what we do in every article, book chapter, and book we write; in every presentation we give; and in every class we teach. Data does not speak for itself; it is the authors' job to ensure readers understand and accept the importance of their research question, set the context for interpreting their findings, and frame the results in ways that give them meaning and lead readers to interpret them as the authors intend. However, too little attention is often given to the "art" of how we tell our research stories. Please join our distinguished panel of accomplished storytellers to discuss how they use the structures, tools, and techniques of storytelling to enhance their writing.

    Organizers:

Timothy G. Pollock, University of Tennessee – Knoxville

Ace Beorchia, University of Tennessee Knoxville

Ashley Y. Roccapriore, University of Tennessee – Knoxville

    Panelists:

Tiziana Casciaro – University of Toronto

Jerry Davis – University of Michigan

Kim Elsbach – University of California-Davis

Ben Hallen – University of Washington

John Hollenbeck – Michigan State University

Violina Rindova – University of Southern California

The symposium consists of two parts: 1) A moderated panel discussion led by Tim Pollock, and 2) An audience Q&A led by Ace Beorchia and Ashley Roccapriore. This is a rare opportunity to gain writing insights and tips from some of the best macro, micro, quantitative and qualitative storytellers in the business. We look forward to seeing you.
