One of the things that so many of us will miss during the AOM meeting is the social aspect.  So, in order to give our members an opportunity to do that, we have organized a Social (4 to 6 p.m. EDT) that will follow our Business Meeting on Monday, August 10 using https://gather.town/.  It's a unique platform that combines the aspects of the various online platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or BB Collaborate, with a second dimension, space, which allows participants to move around and interact in smaller groups. So, it's a bit like the usual social, but in the virtual space.  If you would like to join (and even go to the beach to hear the waves), it's entirely free and independent of the AOM meeting.  Just fill out this survey: (Note this is updated as of Aug. 10 with the correct link!)

https://universityofalabama.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4IqilaZCNJN2mgt.  You will receive an e-mail with the link. A big thank you to Lou Marino for all his help with this!

Before the social, take a few minutes to go to https://gather.town/ to familiarize yourself with the platform. You will need to create an account using the same e-mail address that you submitted on the survey.  Currently the platform only supports Chrome or Firefox, so Mac users can't use Safari.

Here are a couple of pointers for using the platform. There is a tool bar on the left.  The top button allows you to select your video quality and change your name.  Moving down, the next button allows you to select whether or not to use video.  The button that looks like a bullseye allows you to select how close you have to be to hear someone talk.  Bigger means you hear those farther away and smaller means you can't hear anyone (some wish this button existed in real life!). The button that looks like a map shows you what the map looks like and where you are.  The bottom button allows you to change your avatar's appearance.  If there is someone you would like to find, on the right is a participants list. If you click on the person's name, you can select locate and it will show you a path to that participant.  There is a chat function that will allow you to text everyone in the space, and privately with those you select from the list of participants.  You can walk through people (which isn't like a Harry Potter event) by using "g."  Finally, if you get stuck in a crowd of people and can't move, hit the space bar to teleport your avatar somewhere else.  (Some have argued that they need that in real life too!)

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Division sponsors, including our Gold sponsor, The Whitman School of Management, Syracuse University, our Silver sponsors, Stockholm School of Economics, Farmer School of Business, and Baylor University, and our Bronze Sponsors, Colorado State University's Institute for Entrepreneurship, Babson College's Blank Center for Entrepreneurship, Texas Tech University, North Carolina State's Entrepreneurship Clinic, the New England Journal of Entrepreneurship, Jönköping University's Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership, QUT Business School's Australian Centre for Entrepreneurship Research and the Journal of Entrepreneurship and Public Policy.  We are deeply indebted to them.

So, let's go and be social!!
