    Job Description

The DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Entrepreneurship in the Strategic Management Area.  Rank is open, but preference will be given to candidates at the Associate and Full Professor levels. The appointment will commence July 1, 2020, although an earlier appointment date is possible. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a strong program of research, teach the equivalent of four courses a year, and engage in appropriate service within the school.

Candidates should demonstrate successful research outcomes, such as high-quality peer-reviewed journal publications, conference presentations, and successful grant applications in the entrepreneurship area. Successful candidates will also demonstrate excellence in teaching and a strength in building innovative entrepreneurial programs. Direct experience as an entrepreneur or advising entrepreneurs is an asset. Candidates will have a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship or related field with the emphasis on Entrepreneurship.

The mission of the DeGroote School of Business is to foster interdisciplinary thinking and evidence-based management in order to benefit business and society.  Our vision is to be globally recognized as a leader in research, teaching, and community-building - especially in healthcare management and the management of digital innovation.  We support a culture that embraces bold and interdisciplinary thinking; drives the creation and application of evidence-based knowledge; and fosters collegial activity undertaken with integrity. Three core values underpin all we do: innovation, collaboration, and generosity.

In support of this mission, the DeGroote School of Business is building the McLean Centre for Collaborative Discovery, which will have facilities specifically designed to increase engagement among McMaster students, community members, and industry partners. The successful candidate is expected to take a leadership role in building programming with this space in support of the DeGroote School of Business' mission.

DeGroote has a strong research-oriented faculty within a University that, for the past two years, has been recognized as the most research-intensive university in Canada by Research Infosource Inc.  In 2018, it was ranked among the top four Canadian universities, and the top 10% globally by both the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (AWRU). We are supportive of high-quality scholarship. The DeGroote School of Business strives to create a strong, supportive, and collegial research culture, in order to build the research capacity of faculty and graduate students.  We are one of six faculties at McMaster and we believe in experiential and community-engaged learning: complementing classroom studies with hands-on experience.  The School has over 2,300 undergraduate students, 600 MBAs, 60 PhDs and 70 full-time faculty.

The Area's faculty members include Dr. Nick Bontis, Dr. Goran Calic, Dr. Candice Chow, Rita Cossa, Dr. Brent McKnight, Dr. François Neville, Peter Vilks, and Dr. Hongjin Zhu. Their research spans a wide range of topics including innovation, knowledge management, top management teams, resilience, responsible investing, interfirm network, and strategic insight. Our faculty publishes in top tier journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, Organizational Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Research Policy, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Academy of Management Perspectives, Academy of Management Learning and Education, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development. Several have served or are currently serving, as Editors or on review boards of influential journals in management, entrepreneurship and/or strategy.

The School hosts three research centres and a number of research chairs that provide value to business and contribute to the prosperity of society at large.  DeGroote operates at two campuses, the McMaster University main campus in Hamilton, Ontario and a new state-of-the-art facility in nearby Burlington, Ontario, which houses the MBA and executive programs. The successful candidate is expected to be active at both locations, teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Entrepreneurship.  Opportunities to teach in the School's professionally oriented executive development programs and/or Director's College also exist.
