    We would like to inform you that Dr. Patrick J. Murphy (Goodrich Endowed Chair, U. of Alabama at Birmingham) has indicated his intention to step down as Editor of Management Decision at the end of 2019.  We are very grateful for his excellent leadership of the journal since 2014. 


    During his five-year tenure as Editor, he designed and implemented two bold strategic pivots and large operational restructurings. He shifted the journal's focus and description in order to connect with a broader audience of scholars around the world. He built a strong and diverse leadership team of Senior Associate Editors and Associate Editors, tripled the size of the Editorial Board, and collaborated closely with Emerald Publishers. 


    Since 2014, Management Decision's annual submissions have quadrupled (currently 2,000/year), average citation rates have doubled (currently 4,550/year), and its rejection rate (approximately 88%) has increased dramatically.  The journal is in excellent shape and is well-positioned for continued success and impact.


    We are now receiving recommendations and applications for the next Editor of Management Decision


    Some key attributes for this position are an established record of scholarship; previous editorial experience (e.g., journals, special issues, books); managerial competency to oversee a large editorial operation; leadership competency to inspire an active Editorial Advisory Board; ability to work closely and collaboratively with the Publisher to promote strategic performance; and a strong appreciation for Management Decision's editorial goals for publishing high-quality research.


    Editor responsibilities:
    • Management of the editorial operation via ScholarOne (training will be provided)
    • Promoting Management Decision to a broad network to maximize impact
    • Soliciting high-quality manuscripts and facilitating the editorial process
    • Leading a team of Senior Associate Editors, Associate Editors and managing an Editorial Advisory Board
    • Coordinating with the Special Issues Editor, who will commission and oversee the delivery of Special Issues for the journal
    • Screening and overseeing the double-blind peer review process
    • Generating high-quality accepted articles for the Publisher
    • Ensuring the selection of expert reviewers
    • Meeting editorial deadlines
