The Management Department of the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond invites applications for an Instructor of Entrepreneurship beginning in January 2022 or possibly August 2022.

This position will support the Entrepreneurship Concentration and Minor and the proliferation of entrepreneurial activities on campus, such as those organized as part of the new Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (CIE) initiative.

The successful candidate will display the following characteristics:

    1. Demonstrated teaching excellence. The Instructor of Entrepreneurship will possess teaching capabilities that are commensurate with the Robins School's national reputation for exceptional learning. The candidate selected to fill the position could be asked to teach undergraduate and possibly MBA courses in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and New Venture Creation. Generally, undergraduate classes are scheduled during the day, and MBA classes meet once a week, typically in the evenings. The University of Richmond is a residential campus and classes are expected to meet in person.
    1. Strong record of service achievements evidenced by, for example, previous experience supporting an entrepreneurship center, advising and/or mentoring entrepreneurs, and building campus-community partnerships.

A faculty member in this position is expected to make substantial contributions in teaching and service. Accordingly, this position's primary functions are: teaching undergraduate and MBA courses related to entrepreneurship, innovation, and new venture creation, collaborating closely with other faculty in the Entrepreneurship program to develop and promote the program, and providing service to the University, its students, and the program in such areas as (a) mentoring student entrepreneurs as well as student-run campus organizations/clubs, (b) advising students in the Entrepreneurship Concentration and Minor, (c) facilitating business pitches and other competitions, (d) supporting students in off-campus events, and (e) community engagement including off-campus service and speaking events.

This is a nontenure-track teaching position subject to annual renewal, based on performance and school needs. The teaching load is three courses per semester for a total of six courses per academic year. Preference will be given to applicants who are able to effectively teach a variety of relevant core courses (e.g., Introduction to Entrepreneurship, Managing Innovation, New Venture Creation). Of particular importance is the ability to teach the experiential New Venture Creation course in which every entrepreneurship student is required to participate in a rigorous and immersive new venture experience. In the future, there could also be opportunities to teach elective courses, such as entrepreneurial finance, entrepreneurial marketing, social entrepreneurship, etc.

The University of Richmond is a private university located just a short drive from downtown Richmond, Virginia. Through its five schools and wide array of campus programming, the University combines the best qualities of a small liberal arts college and a large university. With nearly 4,000 students, an 8:1 student-faculty ratio, and more than 90% of traditional undergraduate students living on campus, the University is remarkably student-centered, focused on preparing students "to live lives of purpose, thoughtful inquiry, and responsible leadership in a global and pluralistic society."

The University of Richmond's dedication to entrepreneurship can be seen in its CIE initiative, which is a campus-wide effort that aims to foster creativity, entrepreneurial ingenuity, willingness to take risks, resilience, and competence in addressing problems and challenges from multiple perspectives. The initiative is managed by a director who supports student innovation fellows, campus events, and more. More information about those efforts may be found at http://cie.richmond.edu.

The University of Richmond is committed to developing a diverse workforce and student body, and to modeling an inclusive campus community which values the expression of difference in ways that promote excellence in teaching, learning, personal development, and institutional success. Our academic community strongly encourages applications that are in keeping with this commitment. For more information on the department and its programs, please see http://cie.richmond.edu.

Applicants must be either professionally or academically qualified as defined by AACSB criteria. Academic qualification requires an earned doctorate in entrepreneurship (or a closely related field such as Organizational Behavior, Human Resources, Management, Strategy, or Economics) with an appropriate publication record.

Preference will be given to candidates with work experience in business organizations and a network among the local startup ecosystem. The Robins School has multiple areas of strategic interest complementary to entrepreneurship, such as consulting, data analytics, and international business. Applicants who may have experience in one or more of these areas are encouraged to note this in the cover letter.
