    Dear All

The Center for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) at IBA, Karachi was formed in 2010 to promote entrepreneurship and help the youth of the country to develop an entrepreneurial mindset for the creation of environmentally, socially and ethically sensitive business. The center has helped more than 20,000 participants.

The programs at the CED are based on an indigenous model called the Entrepreneurship Plus Model. The model starts with meaning and  purpose in life and enables the participants to work for some noble cause having an eschatological pursuit. The model highlights the importance of values like humility, forgiveness, gratitude and courage. Both a life of purpose and values act as a catalyst to enhance the effectuation skills and leads to venture creation which is environmentally, socially and ethically sustainable. This entrepreneurial journey is transformative and makes the individual humble, caring and closer to God and a source of blessing and peace for humanity (Fig 1 The E-Plus Model).

A comprehensive curriculum comprising case studies, reading material, assignments and experiential exercises to teach the E Plus Model has been developed over the years. Around 20,000 participants have benefited from this model in the past 10 years and are making their livelihood. This model has been taught internationally in Europe, Middle East, Africa and SouthEast Asia. This model has been applied in various settings i.e. Entrepreneurship, Women Entrepreneurship, Technology Entrepreneurship, Vocational Entrepreneurship. and to eradicate poverty. This model has been transferred to other universities to help the student start with the least amount of resources. The following article published in JoTT is a witness of this effort. Qureshi, S., Mian, S. Transfer of entrepreneurship education best practices from business schools to engineering and technology institutions: evidence from Pakistan. J Technol Transf (2020). https://doi.org/10.1007/s10961-020-09793-7

This model is easy to comprehend. It has been tested on people having very low literacy but with some skill. Unprecedented results have been observed as many people living below the poverty line have benefitted from this model. Prof Sarasvathy has written a note on this model as follows. https://ideas.darden.virginia.edu/empowerment-through-ideas-teaching-effectuation-in-pakistan

Very recently an online course was offered during the Covid 19,  Pandemic and proved to be a great success. Around 4200 participants participated and many people benefited from this program. This program is a mix (around 80% online and 20% live)

The second wave of this course is to begin in the last week of June. The IBA CED would like to welcome faculty members from the Entrepreneurs division to contribute as guest speakers and promote this initiative. The detailed brochure is attached.
