2021 USASBE Doctoral Consortium for Teaching and Learning in Entrepreneurship

Academic careers involve both research and teaching, yet many doctoral consortia emphasize only traditional research. The USASBE Doctoral Consortium for Teaching & Learning Entrepreneurship is different, however. With the help of leading faculty in the discipline, the 2021 USASBE consortium will immerse students in the world of teaching and learning entrepreneurship, preparing them to both boldly teach in the field as well as engage thoughtfully with entrepreneurship scholarship.

The 2021 USASBE Doctoral Consortium will be held completely online over the course of four months. It will begin with a two-hour group meeting led by Jill Kickul, Jeff Hornsby, and Christoph Winkler as part of the USASBE 2021: Be Boldly Unscripted Virtual Event taking place January 5-8, 2021. Following this kickoff event, participants will take part in a number of exciting workshops and panel discussions throughout February, March, and April. Workshops will be on topics related to pedagogy (Jim Hart), student assessment (Katie Wray, Richard Tunstall), entrepreneurship education research (Nathalie Duval, Diamanto Politis, Siri Terjesen, Matt Marvel), translation of traditional research to education (Luke Pittaway), as well as an interactive career panel (Susan Fiorito, Sher Gibbs, Susana Santos, Lois Sheldon).

Building community through shared experiences is an important component of the USASBE Doctoral Consortium. This year's new online-only format will give participants an opportunity to engage with a leading entrepreneurship scholar/educator to develop and work on an entrepreneurship education and pedagogy group project (3-4 participants). Team assignments will be based on shared interests and developed through an activity held during the kickoff meeting in January, and project outcomes will be presented during a final virtual meetup in April.

    Program Details:

    • A distinguished group of as many as 20 Ph.D. students will be selected to participate in this year's consortium.
    • Participants must be doctoral students who are emerging entrepreneurship scholars and who will be pursuing academic careers in entrepreneurship.
    • Only one applicant per university will be accepted.
    • Registration fees for the USASBE 2021 Virtual Event as well as the cost of a one-year USASBE membership will be covered for all accepted consortium participants.
    • Deadline for application to the 2021 program is October 31, 2020.
