Call for Applications: Robert K Merton Fellowship in Economic Sociology

The Institute for Analytical Sociology (IAS) at Linköping University is an interdisciplinary institute conducting research in, entrepreneurship. Since its founding in 2014, two dozen researchers from different countries have been recruited to IAS. Recent publications of IAS researchers have appeared in leading journals in Sociology (American Sociological Review, Social Forces, Social Networks, Rationality and Society) and Management (Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Management Science) as well as a range of other fields.

Thanks to a generous grant from Handelsbanken Research Foundations we hereby invite applications to visit IAS as a Robert K Merton Visiting Research Fellow. The program will run for 2019-2021 and applications are processed continuously.

We accept applications both from leading researchers in economic sociology (professor level) as well as promising junior or mid-career scholars (associate or assistant professor level). The fellowship includes roundtrip travel and a tax-free stipend amounting to 40,000 Swedish krona per month (roughly USD$5000) for professors or 31,500 krona (roughly USD$4000) for assistant/associate professors to cover costs for housing and living expenses.

Scholars can apply for 1-, 2-, or 3-month periods, as well as for longer periods as a part-time research fellow e.g. for those on sabbatical leave partly funded by their home universities. Priority will be given to scholars whose research interests overlaps with those of researchers at IAS, those interested in exploring potential collaborative projects, and those opting for longer visits (e.g. 2 or 3 instead of 1 month). We encourage applications from sociologists as well as from neighbouring social-science disciplines.

Research fellows will be provided with office space in the IAS premises in picturesque Norrköping (an hour south of Stockholm), access to university facilities such as library, seminar series, and, for those interested, access to IAS' unique matched longitudinal employee-employer registers provided by Statistics Sweden. Research fellows are expected to participate in weekly activities such as our Tuesday brownbag seminars and Thursday research seminars with international guests.
