    CALL FOR CASES

    Entrepreneurship/ Small Business/ Family Business

    North American Case Research Association

Dear Members of the AOM Entrepreneurship Division,

We would like to invite you and your colleagues to submit a case for the Entrepreneurship / Small Business / Family Business track at next year's Annual Meeting of the North American Case Research Association (NACRA), to be hosted in Orlando, Florida from October 4-6, 2018. The deadline for submission of cases is June 18, 2018, Noon EST.

The NACRA Annual Meeting is a unique opportunity to engage with other leading case researchers in a small-group format, to receive detailed and constructive feedback about your case, and to participate in presentations from experienced case researchers and educators. Our distinctive round-table track design provides an excellent professional opportunity to enhance your abilities to develop higher quality participant-centered and discussion-based cases in marketing and international business.

In order to plan our track, we would really appreciate it if you could please let us know whether you intend to submit a case study to NACRA's 2018 Annual Meeting. You can contact us at canavati@sonoma.edu The conference is open to all management disciplines, and we can direct you or your colleagues to other tracks if more appropriate.

"I've done a lot of statistical work in my career. But, that work would have never allowed me to accomplish whatever I've accomplished because it simply doesn't capture enough of the reality of management. We need to keep this balance between rigorous methodology- based academic work and case research – in-depth, clinical, longitudinal case research... without this balance, we will never make progress in this field... undertaking case studies has been fundamental to every bit of work that I've done."

Dr. Michael E. Porter, Bishop William Lawrence University Professor, Harvard University

The Entrepreneurship / Small Business / Family Business track is focused on the actions, resources, and environmental influences that impact the emergence of entrepreneurial opportunities and challenges that arise in all types of organizations. We welcome cases that explore entrepreneurial / family business issues from different geographical perspectives. Typical topics include growth, organizational structure, succession planning, opportunity recognition, unique value proposition, supply chain management, and strategic positioning among others. Cases based on the Lean LaunchPad or cases with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and small business management education and teaching strategies are ideally suited for this research stream. For a full track description, please visit the conference website at: https://nacra2018.wordpress.com/.

NACRA is an excellent conference outlet for case writers.  For new case writers, NACRA offers a "start-up" workshop, where first-time case authors can present their 2-page early cases for an in-depth discussion on how to shape their research into a full case and a competitive instructor's manual.  This aspect of the conference has also proven to be a fruitful way for faculty to re-invigorate their research agendas.  In addition to the start-up phase of the conference, more seasoned case writers can submit their full cases to the conference, receiving tailored feedback in NACRA's distinctive round-table setting.    Traditionally, conference presenters have aimed to publish their research in the publication of NACRA, the Case Research Journal.  This journal has been ranked in the Academy of Management Learning and Education journal (AMLE).   Furthermore, cases published in the Case Research Journal are distributed by Harvard Business Publishing, The Case Center, Study.net, and Wilfrid Laurier University.

Undisguised decision-focused cases based on primary sources (interviews, field visits) are highly preferred. Although cases may be disguised, they must be based on real events and real people in real organizations. Submitted cases may have been previously taught, but must not be previously published or accepted for publication elsewhere (journals, books, online) before the October 4-6, 2018 conference. Please see the conference links on the NACRA website for submission and formatting instructions (www.nacra.net). We look forward to hearing from you, and hope to include you and your colleagues in our track this fall.

    Best wishes,

    Sergio Canavati, Sonoma State University

Erin Pleggenkuhle-Miles, University of Nebraska Omaha
